Owing to the much apathy towards the stray animals and the amount of cruelty cases committed against the speechless animals has rendered us to take up this cause as part of our mission.
Besides animals killed for food, there are increasing cases of animals tortured/abused/killed for fun. Such incidents are getting widely covered on social media platforms. This needs to be stopped.
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 is the best law to protect animals from any kind of abuse or torture. One can lodge an FIR to protect an animal. Unfortunately common citizens are not aware of these laws therefore they have been not benefitting the animals.
There has been a growing apathy towards stray animals such as dogs, cats and others among the youth who have been targetting the helpless stray animal pranks to become popular on social media. This need to be changed only by sensitzing people on how to treat animals in humane manner.
Our mission is to protect urban biodiversity and stray animals within cities are very much part of the urban biodiversity. So the way we have been creating awareness about wildlife we now plan to include education for stray animals too.
Gully Ka Kutta Challenge: This is a unique month-long initiative that aims in providing a positive connotation to this derogatory term. Also, it is an attempt to recognize people and groups who take care of their stray.
Did you know? A healthy stray dog is an indicator species of compassionate urban communities.
If you or your society is taking care of stray dogs by providing them food, shelter, and occasional medical help, then we need role models of compassionate people like you. You never know you will inspire so many more with your kind gesture.
You may wonder, what difference it will make? We believe compassionate people will ensure the well-being of their stray and protect it against any cruelty. There are also strong chances of getting them adopted too. This will be a big help to all animal rescue centers, animal welfare organizations, and individuals who have been tireless defending & protecting these helpless animals.
If you are convinced in participating in this challenge, here is what we would like you to do. Take a picture of your stray dog, post his/her picture with a name (if they have one, if not you can coin one), and post it on our group- Stray Care with hashtag #gullykakuttachallenge #icaremystray and encourage your friends and family to like and comment. Based on the highest number of likes/comments, we will select one stray dog every week and send a dog food packet to his/her caregiver.
