NatureXplore – Nature-Based Learning Experiences
Introducing NatureXplore!
NatureXplore is iNaturewatch Foundation's flagship outdoor learning programme that takes students beyond the classroom and into the natural world. Through guided excursions to our biodiversity and ecological restoration sites, students experience nature firsthand, develop scientific observation skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the environment through experiential learning.
Designed for students from Grade 4 onwards and colleges, NatureXplore combines biodiversity exploration, ecological restoration, citizen science and field-based learning. The programme is aligned with NCERT's Kaushal Bodh and supports Community Engagement Programme (CEP) objectives by encouraging students to actively engage with nature conservation and environmental stewardship.
NatureXplore: Taloja Trails
As part of the Taloja Hill Forest Ecorestoration Project, iNaturewatch Foundation offers complimentary guided nature trails through one of Navi Mumbai's restored forest landscapes. Schools and colleges can choose from five unique trails, each showcasing a different ecosystem and learning experience.
Temple Trail
Discover the ecological and cultural significance of Taloja Hill while exploring native flora and fauna. Learn how forests have shaped local heritage and how ecological restoration is reviving these landscapes.
Stream Trail
Follow seasonal streams to understand watershed ecology, water conservation, soil erosion control and freshwater biodiversity. Students will observe how restoration interventions improve water retention and ecosystem health.
Meadow Trail
Explore grassland habitats rich in butterflies, pollinators, wildflowers and insects. Learn about pollination, biodiversity and the importance of meadows in supporting healthy ecosystems.
Ridge Trail
Walk along the hill ridges to experience landscape-level ecology, native vegetation and habitat diversity. Students will learn about restoration techniques, climate resilience and the role of forests in maintaining ecological balance.
Lakeview Trail
Overlooking the scenic Taloja Lake, this trail introduces students to the relationship between forest and wetland ecosystems, highlighting the importance of water bodies in supporting birds, wildlife and ecosystem services.

What Students Will Learn
Each guided trail provides opportunities to:
- Explore native biodiversity, including trees, butterflies, birds, insects and other wildlife.
- Learn ecological field techniques such as species identification, biodiversity observation, habitat assessment and nature documentation.
- Understand forest restoration, watershed management and ecosystem services.
- Develop scientific inquiry, critical thinking and environmental stewardship through hands-on learning.
- Participate in citizen science and contribute to biodiversity conservation.
Participation Certificate
Participating schools and colleges will receive a Certificate of Participation from iNaturewatch Foundation in recognition of their contribution to environmental education and community engagement.
NatureXplore is an invitation to explore, observe and learn from nature while inspiring the next generation to become informed, responsible and compassionate custodians of our natural heritage. Through every trail, students witness how science, conservation and community participation come together to restore and protect our forests.
